''Peaceful'' Protest

Presenting: The REAL face of the peace movement...
Perry Valentine takes one for the team.

And this is no isolated incident. It generally happens whenever you try to protest or counter-protest against the socialist types. Just look at some clips on ProtestWarrior.

Apparently violence is ok if it suppresses opposing view. Hmm. Why does this sound so familiar?

Death Toll Comparison

America's War on Iraq (since war began):
971 American Military deaths (according to http://www.antiwar.com/casualties/
6,210 American Military wounded (according to http://www.antiwar.com/casualties/
6,370 Maximum Estimated Iraqi Military Deaths (according to http://www.antiwar.com/casualties/
13,724 Maximum Estimated Iraqi Civilian Deaths (according to http://www.iraqbodycount.net/
21,065 maximum total estimate deaths

2,749 Deaths in WTC attack

America's War on Humanity:
2.5 deaths every minute...
151 deaths every hour...
3,638 deaths every day...
25,466 deaths every week...
110,667 deaths every month...
1.3 Million deaths every year...
38 Million deaths since 1973...

...in America alone...

...due to abortion.

What this means is that there are more entirely innocent human beings killed in one week, in the U.S. alone, than all deaths combined in the war on Iraq since it began.

Ketchup

"A lot of people take ketchup really, really seriously," Zachary says. "Michael Moore makes a film that criticizes the president, and he gets an award at Cannes. I make a bottle of ketchup, and I'm labeled as divisive."

Mmmm. Tomatoey.

Voter's Guide for Serious Catholics

Anyone out there call themselves "Catholic"? How about putting some action behind that honorable label. You should read the Voter's Guide for Serious Catholics.

Read. Not skim.

Orkut

Whoohoo! I finally got an Orkut accout! Hopefully this leads to a Gmail invite. If you know me and would like an invite (sorry if I missed you), let me know.

Update 8/29: Uh... WTF? I tried to log in to my Orkut account today, and I get "login failed: invalid password". I'm certain I've got the right password, checked the caps lock, and even followed the password change procedure without error. Still no dice. I emailed Orkut help and so I'm waiting for a response. I'm really eager to get back on... I've got smack to lay down.

Much delayed Update 9/19: Ok, so like a week later, it just fixed itself. No reply from Orkut or anything. It appears tho that this was a wide-spread but not all-inclusive problem, so I forgive them.

Garden State

It seems really odd to me to be posting this here, but I just can't stop thinking about this film and wanted to say some things about it. I haven't seen it yet, but the trailer gives me goosebumps like few films have. Zach Braff has this geek quality that I think kind of rings familiar to me, and of course Natalie Portman has this almost innate quiet innocence in her appearance. The plot of this movie just sounds so moving, and I could really go for a good emotional movie right now. Too bad I'd look like a total dork (too late) going to see this movie alone.

While looking for any info I could on the release of this movie in my area, I happened upon Zach Braff's Garden State Blog. It's neat to hear the director/writer/actor talk directly to his fans. I just may have to give Scrubs a second chance, especially with the appearance that Heather Graham made on the show. I loved her in Swingers.

D-Link DWL-122 and Kernel 2.6

I recently purchased the DWL-122 USB key WiFi device so that my Zaurus would finally get some decent internet access. I was going to pick up the Hawking Technology key instead, but the D-Link wasn't much more expensive, has a 40mw transmitter, and given the brand name, I figured it would be a pretty good bet that it would have kernel support. Oops. Well, I guess kernel 2.4 has RPMs available, but 2.6 support is really spotty.

Linux can really be a pain when dealing with new-ish products. The tradeoff is that Linux supports most hardware almost indefinitely, which eliminates planned obsolescence.

Werdz er fun.

2. Productive or creative power: fecundity of the mind.

I gets my grammer from Kids in the Hall.

I know. Not really "Humor" but I didn't know where to put it just yet. I just felt the need to share this word with all. Its odd what needs arise out of a few MGD's.

The Real John Kerry.

Dispite hundreds of softball interviews, multiple primary wins, a Democratic National Convention, and phenomenal media coverage, the liberal media keep claiming that the voters still don't know who John Kerry really is. So I'm here to help: Here's two excellent sites explaining who John Kerry really is: Swift Boat Veterans for Truth and The Kerry on Iraq Documentary. I hope you find these to be helpful in finding out what kind of person Kerry is.

On a related note: I heard recently "If you were a terrorist, who would you vote for: Bush or Kerry?", "Who would Osama vote for?", and I saw a t-shirt that said something similar, "10 out of 10 Terrorists Agree: Anybody But Bush!". This raises an excellent point. Kerry likes to claim that he will defend our country better than Bush has, but when you take a look at this logically, it's obvious who will do the better job.

MythTV Project

I've had an ongoing project for probably more than a year now to build a permanent MythTV box. It's pretty easy to set up if you use Fedora Core 1 (WITHOUT the KDE upgrades). Just follow this MythTV HowTo, which includes the info on how to avoid installing KDE updates.

Twin Paradox SolarExpress PDA

So I've really been wanting one of these to connect my N400 with SprintPCS Vision service to my Z so that I can finally browse the web and listen to internet radio wirelessly, anywhere. The annoying thing is that Twin Paradox has delayed to release of the SolarExpress PDA repeatedly until the following month for months now, putting it perpetulally out of reach since I first saw it. The most annoying thing: I wouldn't need this if Sprint would finally just allow their customers to use bluetooth phones on their unlimited wireless web service. Instead I have to cobble together a bunch of devices to do the same thing.

Opie/OpenEmbedded Goodness

So I have this cool toy, the Sharp Zaurus SL-5600, and so far I've been kind of disappointed with the various ROM images out there, and I've been wanting to build/compile the development OpenEmbedded/OpenZaurus image for my Z. Up until today, this has been an excercise in futility. But for joy! I am finally in progress of what appears to be a successful build!

Hopefully once I get it buillt, I can start hosting the images for other n00bs like me to download instead of dealing with the tedious build process.

Update: Oops. Sometimes it feels like things are never that easy...

Update 7/27: Success!... kinda. I finally got the OZ devel stuff to build. I had to tell it to use the 2.4 kernel, and then tell it to ignore applying a patch that was already applied (apparently). It's very much buggy. I see I'm not the only one to notice this. In any case, feel free to download the images here. Good luck!

59 (and climbing) Deceits in Fahrenheit 9/11

Want to prepare your self for the deception in Michael Moore's latest propaganda film Fahrenheit 9/11? Try reading this: http://www.davekopel.com/Terror/Fiftysix-Deceits-in-Fahrenheit-911.htm. There are so many deceits in this film, I didn't have to time to read about them all in one sitting.

Print this out, read it, and use it as a viewing guide to the movie. Oh yeah, and be sure to grab it while you can. Apparently Moore doesn't mind people downloading it using BitTorrent. Can't argue with him in this case: I certainly wouldn't pay to be force-fed crap like that OR to support someone who uses propaganda to incite and fuel blind hatred.

Side note: I've read both Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury AND the quoted 1984 by George Orwell. They rank among my favorites and Fahrenheit 451 ranks as my #1 favorite book (well, aside from the Bible. That's a given). Both of these books address behaviors that the Nazi's and all other Socialist/Communist movements have exibhited. Fahrenheit 451 was clearly about an oppressive government that banned books to achieve a society where no-one was offended, and history could be re-written. 1984 was similarly about an oppressive government that watches your every move, rewrites history, and changes language to conform citizens to a powerful government agenda. These descriptions apply to what Socialists have long tried to achieve around the world, and even in our own country. Just look at most any Liberal cause: The ALCU, public schooling, Supreme Court, The U.N., etc. Moore supports this Socialist world view and will twist the facts any way he can to help further this historically evil movement.

Baghdad Moore

So I hear Saddam hired a new Information Minister...

This is a dish I call "Deceit du Jour". Eat that, Moore.

I've Moved!

It's official, I've moved. I've moved back to my hometown, Plum City, and will be staying with my parents until I find a new job. If you wish to contact me, you can still call my cellphone, otherwise you can try my parent's land-line at 715-647-3178.

I still plan to come back around for LAN parties, and I plan to be back yet this weekend to pick a few left odds and ends.

A ''Conversation'' with a liberal.

What follows is a copy of an actual AIM conversation I had with a relative tonight. I post it to serve as an example of just how hypocritically un-intellectual actual conversations with liberals can be. The name of the relative has been changed out of respect for his privacy:

(00:31:10) Fred: btw one more thing....

(00:31:39) Fred: get ridd of that STUPID BUSH icon!!!!!!!!

(00:32:29) Me: heh

(00:32:31) Fred: i dojnt want to start a polictical fight but BUSH WACKING SUCKS!!!!!!

(00:32:45) Me: Better than a flip-flop.

(00:32:51) Fred: what?

(00:32:57) Me: Oh nothing.

(00:33:06) Fred: i didnt get that

(00:33:25) Me: "In the 2004 presidential field there is a candidate for nearly every point of view, his name is John Kerry" -Jeff Jacoby, Boston Globe

(00:33:42) Fred: ????

(00:34:24) Fred: what do you mea, he can make up he mind?

(00:34:44) Me: Read the article in the link

(00:35:06) Fred: no not tonight

(00:35:11) Fred: om going to bed

(00:35:11) Me: ok

(00:36:43) Fred: no offence but im NOT being nice. only a moron would vote for a moron. Mr. moron Geroge BUSH VOTE KERRY

(00:37:31) Fred: if you dont like kerry, vote for him anyway because a vote for him is vote against bush

(00:38:08) Fred: but goodnight

(00:38:30) Fred: bye

At this point, he signs off, not even giving me a chance to respond. What follows is the response I prepared for a buddy pounce.

I'm sorry Fred. Those have got to be the most closed-minded, childishly insulting statements I have ever heard. Furthermore, your reasoning is scary. You clearly have no idea what you are even voting FOR, but you certainly would make a mule green with envy over your blindly stubborn belief that you know what you are voting against. Saying a statement like that is like saying "A vote for Hitler is a vote against BUSH". While it may be true, you'll be in worse shape if you do. You need to learn a little more about who exactly you are voting for, because clearly you don't know. Prove me worng. Enligten me with your apparently expansive knowledge of Kerry, rather than your baseless, redundant, unconvincing, humorless insults.

Intellectual and open-minded. Clearly.

Jeff Jacoby on Kerry

So cool a quote, enjoy it:

"In the 2004 presidential field there is a candidate for nearly every point of view, his name is John Kerry" -Jeff Jacoby, Boston Globe

Zing!
