''Peaceful'' Protest

Presenting: The REAL face of the peace movement...
Perry Valentine takes one for the team.

And this is no isolated incident. It generally happens whenever you try to protest or counter-protest against the socialist types. Just look at some clips on ProtestWarrior.

Apparently violence is ok if it suppresses opposing view. Hmm. Why does this sound so familiar?

Death Toll Comparison

America's War on Iraq (since war began):
971 American Military deaths (according to http://www.antiwar.com/casualties/
6,210 American Military wounded (according to http://www.antiwar.com/casualties/
6,370 Maximum Estimated Iraqi Military Deaths (according to http://www.antiwar.com/casualties/
13,724 Maximum Estimated Iraqi Civilian Deaths (according to http://www.iraqbodycount.net/
21,065 maximum total estimate deaths

2,749 Deaths in WTC attack

America's War on Humanity:
2.5 deaths every minute...
151 deaths every hour...
3,638 deaths every day...
25,466 deaths every week...
110,667 deaths every month...
1.3 Million deaths every year...
38 Million deaths since 1973...

...in America alone...

...due to abortion.

What this means is that there are more entirely innocent human beings killed in one week, in the U.S. alone, than all deaths combined in the war on Iraq since it began.

Ketchup

"A lot of people take ketchup really, really seriously," Zachary says. "Michael Moore makes a film that criticizes the president, and he gets an award at Cannes. I make a bottle of ketchup, and I'm labeled as divisive."

Mmmm. Tomatoey.

Voter's Guide for Serious Catholics

Anyone out there call themselves "Catholic"? How about putting some action behind that honorable label. You should read the Voter's Guide for Serious Catholics.

Read. Not skim.

Orkut

Whoohoo! I finally got an Orkut accout! Hopefully this leads to a Gmail invite. If you know me and would like an invite (sorry if I missed you), let me know.

Update 8/29: Uh... WTF? I tried to log in to my Orkut account today, and I get "login failed: invalid password". I'm certain I've got the right password, checked the caps lock, and even followed the password change procedure without error. Still no dice. I emailed Orkut help and so I'm waiting for a response. I'm really eager to get back on... I've got smack to lay down.

Much delayed Update 9/19: Ok, so like a week later, it just fixed itself. No reply from Orkut or anything. It appears tho that this was a wide-spread but not all-inclusive problem, so I forgive them.

Garden State

It seems really odd to me to be posting this here, but I just can't stop thinking about this film and wanted to say some things about it. I haven't seen it yet, but the trailer gives me goosebumps like few films have. Zach Braff has this geek quality that I think kind of rings familiar to me, and of course Natalie Portman has this almost innate quiet innocence in her appearance. The plot of this movie just sounds so moving, and I could really go for a good emotional movie right now. Too bad I'd look like a total dork (too late) going to see this movie alone.

While looking for any info I could on the release of this movie in my area, I happened upon Zach Braff's Garden State Blog. It's neat to hear the director/writer/actor talk directly to his fans. I just may have to give Scrubs a second chance, especially with the appearance that Heather Graham made on the show. I loved her in Swingers.

D-Link DWL-122 and Kernel 2.6

I recently purchased the DWL-122 USB key WiFi device so that my Zaurus would finally get some decent internet access. I was going to pick up the Hawking Technology key instead, but the D-Link wasn't much more expensive, has a 40mw transmitter, and given the brand name, I figured it would be a pretty good bet that it would have kernel support. Oops. Well, I guess kernel 2.4 has RPMs available, but 2.6 support is really spotty.

Linux can really be a pain when dealing with new-ish products. The tradeoff is that Linux supports most hardware almost indefinitely, which eliminates planned obsolescence.

Werdz er fun.

fe·cun·di·ty:

1. The quality or power of producing abundantly; fruitfulness or fertility.

2. Productive or creative power: fecundity of the mind.

I gets my grammer from Kids in the Hall.

I know. Not really "Humor" but I didn't know where to put it just yet. I just felt the need to share this word with all. Its odd what needs arise out of a few MGD's.

The Real John Kerry.

Dispite hundreds of softball interviews, multiple primary wins, a Democratic National Convention, and phenomenal media coverage, the liberal media keep claiming that the voters still don't know who John Kerry really is. So I'm here to help: Here's two excellent sites explaining who John Kerry really is: Swift Boat Veterans for Truth and The Kerry on Iraq Documentary. I hope you find these to be helpful in finding out what kind of person Kerry is.

On a related note: I heard recently "If you were a terrorist, who would you vote for: Bush or Kerry?", "Who would Osama vote for?", and I saw a t-shirt that said something similar, "10 out of 10 Terrorists Agree: Anybody But Bush!". This raises an excellent point. Kerry likes to claim that he will defend our country better than Bush has, but when you take a look at this logically, it's obvious who will do the better job.

MythTV Project

I've had an ongoing project for probably more than a year now to build a permanent MythTV box. It's pretty easy to set up if you use Fedora Core 1 (WITHOUT the KDE upgrades). Just follow this MythTV HowTo, which includes the info on how to avoid installing KDE updates.

Twin Paradox SolarExpress PDA

So I've really been wanting one of these to connect my N400 with SprintPCS Vision service to my Z so that I can finally browse the web and listen to internet radio wirelessly, anywhere. The annoying thing is that Twin Paradox has delayed to release of the SolarExpress PDA repeatedly until the following month for months now, putting it perpetulally out of reach since I first saw it. The most annoying thing: I wouldn't need this if Sprint would finally just allow their customers to use bluetooth phones on their unlimited wireless web service. Instead I have to cobble together a bunch of devices to do the same thing.
